Nifedipin STADA® 10 mg

Packaging:

Film-coated tablet of 10 mg.

Blister of 10 tablets. Box of 10 blisters.

Composition: Nifedipine

Indications:

  • Nifedipine is used in the management of Prinzmetal variant angina and chronic stable angina pectoris, and in the treatment of Raynaud's syndrome.

  • Nifedipine is considered one of several preferred antihypertensive drugs for the initial management of hypertension in patients with a high risk of developing coronary artery disease, including those with diabetes mellitus.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to nifedipine or other dihydropyridines because of the theoretical risk of cross-reactivity.

  • Women capable of child-bearing or to nursing mothers.

  • In cardiogenic shock, clinically significant aortic stenosis, unstable angina, or during or within one month of a myocardial infarction.

  • Acute attacks of angina.

  • In malignant hypertension.

  • Secondary prevention of myocardial infarction.

Adverse reactions:

  • The most common adverse effects of nifedipine are associated with its vasodilator action and often diminish on continued therapy.

  • The adverse effects include dizziness, flushing, headache, hypotension, peripheral oedema, tachycardia, and palpitations. Nausea and other gastrointestinal disturbances, increased micturition frequency, eye pain, visual disturbances, and mental depression have also occurred. A paradoxical increase in ischaemic chest pain may occur at the start of treatment and in a few patients excessive fall in blood pressure has led to cerebral or myocardial ischaemia or transient blindness.

  • There have been reports of rashes, fever, and abnormalities in liver function, including cholestasis, due to hypersensitivity reactions. Gingival hyperplasia, myalgia, tremor, and impotence have been reported.

Dosage:

  • The recommended starting dose of that drug is 10 mg every 12 hours. According to response, the dose may be adjusted to 40 mg every 12 hours.
